As of Saturday October 13th, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano in affiliation with LI-Dog and sponsorship of Pet Supplies Plus of Long Island, have announced the opening of the new dog park in Eisenhower Park.  This new dog park is located at the junction of Salisbury Park Drive and Stewart Avenue.  The park is divided into two areas covering about 1.5 acres.  The two areas provide separate locations for large dogs, and small dogs less than 25 pounds.  These areas provide safe and fun open space for your dog to get some exercise.  They include shade structures, water stations, waste stations, trees and benches for any dog to enjoy.

Mangano stated that Nassau County would continue to accommodate its residents and their pets with perks such as this on a regular basis.  “Nassau County is pleased to be able to provide residents with an additional place to exercise and socialize their dogs,” he said. “Dog parks encourage responsible pet ownership and lead to better behaved dogs, which ultimately reduce shelter overcrowding, since the majority of dogs surrendered to shelters are given up due to behavioral problems.”

The grand opening festivities commenced at 11:00 am, which featured a ribbon cutting ceremony and an event featuring dogs available for rescue from local groups including North Shore Animal League, Bobbi and the Strays, and Yorkie911 rescue.  It is now available for all Nassau residents to bring their dog and enjoy the benefits of Eisenhower Dog Park a safe friendly area to bring your dog to train, exercise, interact or just simply relax.
