Many People Are Trying to Recover from Hurricane Sandy

After Hurricane Sandy Struck land earlier this week, it caused massive devastation to certain areas close to the water as well as surrounding areas.  The damage was well advertised and people tried to prepare for it as best they could.  When Mother Nature strikes there are some things that cannot be prevented no matter what we do.  This massive natural disaster caused destruction all along the upper east coast and even into Canada claiming more than 40 lives in the United States and Canada, including 18 in the city.  A wild fire rampaged more than 100 houses in Breezy Point Queens.

The storm continued into the Midwest vastly weaker than when it made landfall in New Jersey on Monday night.  Now we are in the process of healing from the destruction that occurred.  President Obama approved disaster declaration for New York and New Jersey, making them eligible for federal assistance while rebuilding.  He promises all available resources for the recovery efforts.  Rescuers continue to look for survivors in the wet rubble in places like Atlantic City and other effected areas.  Mayor Bloomberg stated that around 7,000 trees had been knocked down in city parks, and has officially canceled the parade in Greenwich Village, which is the first time in the parade’s 39-year history.  New York’s famous subway system suffered the worst damage of its 108-year history and faced one its longest shutdowns ever because the effects of the storm were so much worse than expected.

Airports as well as the LIRR and public buses have suffered significant amounts of damage making public transportation almost impossible for a short period of time.  Flooding was so bad that rescue crews had to travel in boats and other motorized watercrafts.  This is the worst natural disaster since hurricane Katrina; it is going to take a very long time to completely recover from a travesty such as this.  All available resources are being utilized to remedy the effects of the storm.

Eisenhower Dog Park!

As of Saturday October 13th, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano in affiliation with LI-Dog and sponsorship of Pet Supplies Plus of Long Island, have announced the opening of the new dog park in Eisenhower Park.  This new dog park is located at the junction of Salisbury Park Drive and Stewart Avenue.  The park is divided into two areas covering about 1.5 acres.  The two areas provide separate locations for large dogs, and small dogs less than 25 pounds.  These areas provide safe and fun open space for your dog to get some exercise.  They include shade structures, water stations, waste stations, trees and benches for any dog to enjoy.

Mangano stated that Nassau County would continue to accommodate its residents and their pets with perks such as this on a regular basis.  “Nassau County is pleased to be able to provide residents with an additional place to exercise and socialize their dogs,” he said. “Dog parks encourage responsible pet ownership and lead to better behaved dogs, which ultimately reduce shelter overcrowding, since the majority of dogs surrendered to shelters are given up due to behavioral problems.”

The grand opening festivities commenced at 11:00 am, which featured a ribbon cutting ceremony and an event featuring dogs available for rescue from local groups including North Shore Animal League, Bobbi and the Strays, and Yorkie911 rescue.  It is now available for all Nassau residents to bring their dog and enjoy the benefits of Eisenhower Dog Park a safe friendly area to bring your dog to train, exercise, interact or just simply relax.

Yankees Defeat the Orioles with a Walk-Off Home Run!

(516) 319-5822
www.TrafficTicketNassauCounty.com

What a night for Raul Ibanez in the Bronx last night! Raul Ibanez hit not one, but TWO home runs in last night’s game. One of those home runs was a walk-off home run in the 12th inning to beat the Orioles!
Ibanez was brought into the lineup for the Bombers to replace Alex Rodriguez in the number 3 spot.

Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, made the decision to have Ibanez bat for Rodriguez who is just 1 for 12 with no RBI’s and seven strikeouts in the series. This was the first time A-Rod had ever been given a pinch-hitter in a postseason game.

However, Girardi reported he had to go with his gut feeling and make the decision. The decision by the Yankee manager seems to have been the right one! Ibanez is the first player to hit two home runs in a postseason game in which he didn't start!

Congratulations to the New York Yankees and good luck in tonight’s game!

Who Will Win the American League Division Series?

(516) 319-5822
www.TrafficTicketNassauCounty.com

After a short rain delay, the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles were all set for game one of the American League Division Series.  The Yankees beat out the Orioles for the American East title, however the Orioles did remain in the race till the very last game of the season.  The Orioles beat the Texas Rangers in the new Wild Card playoff round and the stage was set for these two American League East rivals to go at it in the first round.

C.C Sabathia was on the hill for the Yankees facing Orioles pitcher Jason Hammel.  Sabathia struggled against the Orioles this season.  In his 3 starts against them, he had a 0-2 record.  However, in this game he did not struggle.  Sabathia pitched 8.2 innings, struck out 7, and only allowed 2 runs.

The Yankees didn't waste anytime before scoring runs!Ichiro Suzuki, the second batter of the game, drove in Derek Jeter to put the Yankees on top early with a 1-0 lead.  2 innings later the Orioles took the lead on a double by Nate McLouth.  Those would be the only runs Sabathia would allow.  An inning later the Yankees would tie it up on a Mark Teixera double.  The next few innings was a well pitched game by both times until the top of the 9th.  Jim Johnson, the Orioles closer who had 51 saves this year came into the game.  Russell Martin, the first batter he faced hit a home run to break the tie.  The Yankees would add another 4 runs to take and eventually win the game 7-2.

The Yankees and Orioles are set to play the very next night again in Baltimore.  The Orioles are looking to win this crucial game two in Baltimore before they have to go to Yankee Stadium for the rest of the series.

Updates About the Couple Who Drive into a Huntington Woman's Home

(516) 319-5822
www.TrafficTicketNassauCounty.com

Taking the Rap for a DWI when it isn't really your fault! A DWI is an occurrence that can be avoided- but it happens more frequently than not. If you are caught driving while intoxicated there are charges that you will be responsible for and if you do not adhere to them properly it can be even worse.

In this case, 21- year old Sophia Anderson took the blame for the DWI that her ex-boyfriend really committed. On May 28, 2012, Sophia Anderson and her ex- boyfriend Dan Sajewksi plowed a Mercedes through a Huntington home.  Anderson was manipulated by Sajewski to take the blame for this accident because she knew he was already facing criminal charges in three counties.

Since the accident, Anderson has been dealing with the media, charges and lawyers and now she has come out and said she was not the one who drove the car, that it was indeed Sajewski.  The DWI charges against Anderson will be dropped, but she will still face a charge for lying to the police. Her lawyer said Anderson had to do what was right.

It is always better to be safe than sorry and in this case two people were in the car that drove into an elderly woman’s house. They both will pay for their mistakes.
