USA Came Out on Top at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games!

The 2012 Summer Olympic Games which took place in London have come to an end. The past couple of weeks have been filled with many memorable moments and exciting sporting events.

The United States of America came out on top at the 2012 summer games. The USA finished with a total of 104 medals! China had 88 medals, Russia had 82 and Great Britain had 65! The USA finished with 46 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 28 bronze medals!

Sixteen of the USA’s forty six gold medals came from swimming alone! The USA also took home medals for gymnastics, basketball, soccer, beach volleyball and rowing! There were also a lot of memorable moments for a number of athletes from the USA. Michael Phelps was named the most decorated Olympian ever and Dana Vollmer set a new world record for the women’s 100m butterfly final! Also, the USA’s men’s basketball team or “the dream team” has they’re referred to landed their fifth basketball gold in six Olympic games!

All of the athletes that participated in the 2012 Summer Olympic Games all have much to celebrate and many accomplishments to be proud of! Congratulations to all of the athletes and welcome home!

Aly Raisman Keeps on Shining!

Yesterday, USA’s Aly Raisman of the women’s gymnastics team won the gold medal in the women’s floor final! Raisman also won a bronze medal yesterday for her balance beam routine! Catalina Ponar of Romania took home the silver medal and Aliya Mustafina of Russia took home the bronze.The defending Olympic champion Sandra Izbasa of Romania finished at the bottom last night after falling on her last tumble in her routine.

Raisman said “Today has been a dream come true. I’m so glad I got the medal I wanted. It was the best routine I’ve ever done. My coach said it was the best routine he’d ever seen me do.”

Raisman, who is the captain of the team, is the most decorated Olympian on her USA squad and will return to the states with the most medals!

The 2012 Olympic Games begin TOMORROW!

It’s finally here! The 2012 Olympic Games begin tomorrow night in London! The opening ceremony begins tomorrow night at 7:30 pm EST on NBC! The opening ceremony is an exciting and emotional time for all those who gather to celebrate the beginning of such a great event.

London 2012 opening ceremony is being anticipated by many people around the world. Many are wondering if it will top the opening ceremony from the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing, China.

This year, the opening ceremony in London is being directed by British film director Danny Boyle. Boyle has been involved with productions such as Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours and 28 Days Later.

• The ceremony begins when the Head of State, Queen Elizabeth II, is received at the entrance of the Olympic Stadium by Jacques Rogge, the President of the International Olympic Committee.
• A parade of athletes from the different participating nations enters the Olympic Stadium in, "alphabetical order, according to the language of the Host Country, apart from the Greek team, which enters first for the Olympics, and the team of the Great Britain, which marches in last."
• The chair of London's Olympic organizing committee, Seb Coe, will give a speech, following by a subsequent speech by Rogge. Their speeches end by welcoming the Head of State to proclaim the beginning of the games.
• After the games are declared open, the Olympic Flag enters the stadium and is hoisted into the air as the British national anthem is played.
• A participating athlete, judge and coach from Team Great Britain all take a vow to compete and judge the games according to the rules of each respective sport.
• The most well-known portion of the ceremony comes at the end, as the Olympic Flame enters the Olympic Stadium. The flame is passed through the procession of athletes before being given to the final Torchbearer, who lights the Cauldron, signifying the beginning of the games. The flame will burn for the duration of the Games.
