The special edition veteran plate is available for both passenger and commercial vehicles to US veterans who have vehicles registered in New York State.

For those who have the older version of the “Veteran” plate and would like to upgrade, the cost to do so will be $28.75. For first time buyers, the cost of the plate will be $38.75.

DMV Commissioner Barbara J. Fiala stated “we could not enjoy the privileges of freedom and security without the service of our men and women in uniform… we are very proud to offer this redesigned license plate to New York’s veterans in recognition of their service and sacrifice,” (CBS New York).

Applicants are required to provide a copy of their DD-214 or discharge papers, or additional proof that he or she is a veteran in order to receive the special edition plate.
