For those of you other there that have some unpaid parking
tickets and you live in a small town in New Mexico, you better pay them now or
you are at risk of having your utilities shut off.
The city of Las Cruces is considering cutting off the water
and sewer utilities of its customers with outstanding tickets in the wake of a
$2 million deficit in fine revenue, according to ABC News (http://goo.gl/MjSPF).
According to one of the “example letters” sent out, it
states that unless the red light camera fines are paid or payment arrangements
are made with the city on or before the due date, Las Cruces will terminate all
current city-provided utility service to the residence.
One reason this option is being explored is because the city
can’t take the drivers to court over these violations. The only enforcement
they have is the cutting of the utilities plan.
As stated in the city municipal code, “the city may decline,
fail or cease to furnish utility service to any person who may be in debt to
the city for any reason, except ad valorem taxes and special assessments.” (http://goo.gl/MjSPF)
What would your thoughts be on this if Nassau County pulled
one of these programs to help collect parking or red light fees? Let’s hear
your feedback on this!

Drivers should pay for their titches even if they're from Zimbabwe:)
ReplyDeleteIf you do mistakes you have to support the consequences, and when it comes to driving legal mistakes the consequences are speeding, parking or other tickets...of course there could be more severe consequences: car accidents or stuff but I hate talking about them....
I admit I'm a driver that had many speeding tickets Toronto but I paid every single one of them off course not the ones my lawyer could dismiss in court:P
