Kayla Gerdes, a Long Island woman, was
sentenced to 3 to 9 years in prison earlier this week for driving over and jumping a curb and
killing 69 year old Dr. Rebecca Twine-Wright in 2010.
Gerdes admitted she was high on drugs
when the incident occurred.
Gerdes, age 18 at the time of the accident, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter, driving while high on drugs,
reckless driving, criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal
possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of stolen property,
unlawful possession of marijuana, conspiracy and operating a motor vehicle without
a license.
At the time of the arrest, Gerdes had a
stolen prescription pad and over 50 painkillers in her possession!
