Taking the Rap for a DWI when it isn't really your fault! A DWI is an occurrence that can be avoided- but it happens more frequently than not. If you are caught driving while intoxicated there are charges that you will be responsible for and if you do not adhere to them properly it can be even worse.  

In this case, 21- year old Sophia Anderson took the blame for the DWI that her ex-boyfriend really committed. On May 28, 2012, Sophia Anderson and her ex- boyfriend Dan Sajewksi plowed a Mercedes through a Huntington home.  Anderson was manipulated by Sajewski to take the blame for this accident because she knew he was already facing criminal charges in three counties.

Since the accident, Anderson has been dealing with the media, charges and lawyers and now she has come out and said she was not the one who drove the car, that it was indeed Sajewski.  The DWI charges against Anderson will be dropped, but she will still face a charge for lying to the police. Her lawyer said Anderson had to do what was right.

It is always better to be safe than sorry and in this case two people were in the car that drove into an elderly woman’s house. They both will pay for their mistakes.

Long Island Sobriety Checkpoint Ends with Thirteen Arrests!

This past weekend in Suffolk County Long Island, there was a sobriety checkpoint was set up on Route 110 in Huntington. The checkpoint was conducted by the Suffolk County Police, New York State Police and MTA Police.

The checkpoint was set up in an effort to prevent injuries and fatalities. Of the 662 cars that passed thru the Route 110 checkpoint, there were thirteen arrests made by the end of it.

Twelve individuals were charged with driving while intoxicated, and one other individual was charged with driving while ability impaired by the combined influence of drugs and alcohol, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Devils One Win Away From Eliminating Rangers

After the New Jersey Devils dominated the New York Rangers in Game 4 of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals, the Rangers wanted to come out with a sense of urgency Wednesday night and take the series lead. However, it was the Devils who did just that.

New Jersey scored three quick first-period goals to take a 3-0 lead, only to have the Rangers tie the game early in the third period. But the Devils prevailed scoring late in the game and adding an empty-net goal to put the Rangers on the brink of elimination, once again.

The Rangers have faced two other win or out situations this year and have prevailed in both of those games. They travel to Newark tonight for Game 6, and if they can pull out a win, they will be back at the world’s most famous arena on Sunday for the decisive Game 7.

Joint Statement On Nassau County’s Fiscal Crisis

On May 11, 2012, Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano, Presiding Officer Peter Schmitt and The Republican Legislative Caucus issued a joint statement to county residents regarding the fiscal crisis.

In the statement, they are saying that Democrat Minority on the Legislature is refusing to implement a plan that forever ends borrowing for tax refunds while cleaning up debt created over the past decade. 

Per the press release, if the Democrats do not provide the votes needed to pay residents their rightfully owed property tax refunds, judgments will be executed against the County’s bank accounts – preventing the County from meeting payroll or funding government services (http://goo.gl/NGV3s).

If this is turned down, there will be massive cuts, which could include the following:

- Furlough of all nonessential employees

- Closure of all nonessential County offices on Mondays

- Elimination of the Youth Board

- Elimination of the Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities Services

- Eliminated of the Red Light Camera Dedicated Fund

Operation ‘Hang-Up’ A Success For State Troopers

From April 23 through May 4, New York State Troopers issued 221 violations on Long Island for distracted driving during their latest campaign which they call “Operation Hang-Up.”

Throughout New York State, police issued 3,172 tickets during this operation, which was the second one in the past five months. Of the tickets issued on Long Island, 112 were in Nassau and 109 in Suffolk. 

Governor Mario M. Cuomo said that there will be more of these operations down the road, so drivers should wake-up, change their behaviors and stop putting themselves and others at risk (http://goo.gl/0feBG).

The governor signed a law last July strengthening the enforcement of distracted driving. The penalty, when caught, increased from two to three points. Under the law, looking at your phone or any other handheld electronic devise while driving is considered illegal. 

Recent research shows drivers talking on phones are four times more likely to be involved in a crash, and the behavior of such drivers is equivalent to the behavior of drunk drivers at the threshold of the legal limit of a 0.08 percent blood-alcohol level. Texting increases the risk more than 23 times.

Actor Helping Drivers Avoid Parking Fines

We’ve all done it before. We’ve parked and fed the meter some change and went about our business. But then we remember, did I put enough money in? When we get back out to our cars, there it sits on your windshield under the windshield wiper: a ticket.

If you live in Los Angeles, you might have someone making sure that your ticket never happens. His name is Jake Gyllenhall.

He has been reportedly spotted topping up the parking meters of nearby cars to stop the drivers from getting tickets. The movie star apparently fed his spare change into the strangers’ machines after spotting an oncoming traffic warden (azcentral.com).

The 31-year old actor had done some charity work when he was younger, so he knows a lot about kindness at a young age. He believes in doing something good for the community, and this is one of those instances.
