The Nassau County Police Department hosted its annual open
house from May 16-18 at their headquarters on Franklin Avenue in Mineola. The
open house helped celebrate the 87th anniversary of the police
department.
The exposition was designed to educate, inform and involve
citizens of Nassau County to create a spirit of cooperation among police
officers on the citizens they serve (http://goo.gl/u6q3i).
The attractions that were there included the arson/bomb
squad, and the emergency services unit. The Bureau of Special Operations
demonstrated how they rappel from a building and there were also demonstrations
by the department’s canine and mounted units.
The exhibits included the Highway Patrol Bureau, Aviation
Unit, Crime Scene Search Section, among others. Kids were encouraged to take
part in the KID-PIX photo ID program and at the children’s safety town.
